Rep. Andy Harris Tells Newsmax: Companies Responsible for Bridge Collapse should Pay the Costs
President Joe Biden visited the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore on Friday, but Rep. Andy Harris questions why he isn’t pushing the company responsible for the catastrophe to replace the bridge and cover the cleanup costs. Harris expressed his concerns on Newsmax on Friday.
Harris pointed out that when a similar incident occurred in East Palestine, Ohio, Biden demanded that railroad companies take responsibility for the cleanup. It’s unclear why he has not done the same with the foreign company involved in the bridge collapse.
Harris believes Biden’s visit to Baltimore is more about “grandstanding” during an election year and doubts that the president will make significant contributions to the ongoing cleanup efforts.
While the US Army Corps of Engineers works to clear the harbor, Harris remains skeptical about the timeline for reopening the Port of Baltimore. He emphasized the need to streamline processes and eliminate unnecessary regulations to expedite the reconstruction of the bridge and prevent further delays.
Regarding financial assistance for affected workers, Harris mentioned potential Department of Labor funds and state legislation in Maryland to provide relief to those left unemployed by the bridge collapse.
