Rep. Anthony D’Esposito tells Newsmax that ‘Failed Leadership’ is breeding ‘Environments of Hatred’
A recent takeover of a building at Columbia University by protesters is seen as a “sad day,” but not unexpected due to the “failed leadership,” according to Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y., in an interview with Newsmax.
D’Esposito criticized Columbia University President Minouche Shafik and other leaders for choosing to “ignore” and “negotiate with the individuals who have taken over,” as he told “Wake Up America” on Tuesday.
He expressed frustration with the president’s attempts to reason with irrational people, as the protesters were told to leave the quad and ignored the directive. D’Esposito emphasized that the situation is no longer a peaceful protest, but an occupation by individuals committing crimes on the campus who need to be arrested.
Calling for the immediate resignation of the president and the restoration of order at Columbia, D’Esposito warned that Democrats will face consequences for the ongoing protests and violence at universities across the country.
He criticized President Joe Biden for his silence on the protests, attributing it to pandering to the far left of his party. D’Esposito highlighted the contrast between states led by Republicans that have protests under control and those like Columbia where negotiations are preferred over arrests.
In addition to addressing the border crisis, D’Esposito advocated for his Police Our Border Act, which aims to evaluate the impact of the border crisis on law enforcement.
