Rep. Buck Refutes Allegations of Conspiracy Against Boebert
Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., denied claims that his departure from Congress was a strategic move to hinder Rep. Lauren Boebert’s electoral prospects in the 4th Congressional District, as reported by The Hill.
Despite previously announcing he would not seek reelection, Buck unexpectedly announced his early retirement, leading to a special election to fill his seat.
Boebert criticized Buck’s decision, calling it “weak sauce” and insinuating a backroom deal by the establishment to sway the election in her favor. Buck refuted these accusations, labeling them as “ridiculous” and reaffirming his neutrality in the electoral process.
The timing of the announcement aimed to align the special election with the primary scheduled for June 25, as per Buck. Boebert, on the other hand, opted not to participate in the special election to focus on the primary, arguing that holding both simultaneously would confuse voters.
In the special election, each party will nominate a candidate to compete for Buck’s vacant seat until the term ends, presenting a strategic opportunity for the GOP. However, Boebert faces a dilemma in potentially losing her 3rd District seat should she participate in the special election.
