Rep. Burchett Urges Newsmax to Prioritize US Security Over Foreign Aid
Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., expressed to Newsmax on Wednesday his concerns about rushing through foreign aid bills to Ukraine and Taiwan, questioning why the Republican-led House isn’t prioritizing America’s security.
Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., facing challenges within his own conference, has reportedly scheduled a weekend vote on various bills, including billions in foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, along with bills related to seized Russian assets, requiring TikTok to divest from ByteDance, a border security bill, and more.
“I don’t see the urgency for Taiwan funding,” Burchett stated on “The Chris Salcedo Show.” “I don’t see the rush for Ukraine. Israel? Yes, but the rest, and then the TikTok bill is another inclusion that doesn’t make sense to me or to America.”
Burchett voiced frustration with the decision-making process in Congress, especially after the Democrat-controlled Senate opted out of impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
He criticized the way deals are made between members of Congress, accusing them of not standing firm on their promises to their constituents.
