Rep. Comer questions the impact of impeachment on Biden, asks Newsmax

House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer, in an exclusive interview with Newsmax, mentioned that rather than pursuing articles of impeachment, criminal referrals are now being sought against President Joe Biden and his family. Comer, a Kentucky Republican, expressed his doubts about the effectiveness of impeachment, stating that the Senate may not even consider it if passed by the House.

Comer highlighted the case of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who was impeached by the House a month ago, but the Senate has not taken any action on it yet.

Instead of impeachment, Comer believes that holding Biden accountable through the legal system is the way to go. He mentioned that if the current Attorney General, Merrick Garland, refuses to press charges, the next attorney general can step in.

Comer also acknowledged that the enthusiasm for impeaching Biden among House Republicans has waned. He noted that some members of the Republican conference are hesitant to support impeachment, but their constituents may not approve of their inaction.

In response to a question about continuing the investigation into Biden if former President Donald Trump returns to the White House, Comer stated that he has not discussed this with Trump.
