Rep. Comer tells Newsmax that Democrats’ Trump trial has ‘backfired’
House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax on Thursday that the criminal trial of former President Donald Trump “will backfire dramatically on the Democrats” in November.
Trump’s trial in New York City, where he faces over 30 felony charges related to payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, entered its second day of jury deliberations on Thursday.
Appearing on “National Report,” Comer was asked about the trial’s impact on the 2024 elections.
“I think this entire process has already backfired on Democrats because the American people paying attention to this trial see it as a complete sham and political persecution,” he said.
Comer cited recent polls showing Trump leading outside the margin in every swing state over President Joe Biden.
“The American people have largely decided against Joe Biden and Bidenomics,” Comer added.
In the congressman’s view, voters believe Trump has been unfairly treated in a two-tiered justice system, and they are witnessing it unfold.
Comer predicted that if Trump is convicted and authorities attempt to arrest or jail him, there will be a significant backlash from upset individuals who are already highly motivated.
