Rep. Donalds accuses Democrats of intentionally stalling government funding bill, tells Newsmax.

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., expressed his disappointment with the recent passage of a continuing resolution government funding bill during an interview on Newsmax’sRob Schmitt Tonight” and criticized the “slow walking” approach taken by President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

“The strategy from Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer this entire time has been to slow-walk everything, never really getting in the room, waiting till the last minute to negotiate, and frankly, the American people have had enough. We’ve given enough time to get the spending deals done. They’ve been playing around over there in the Senate for months, and I don’t think we should be playing that game anymore,” Donalds stated.

Donalds emphasized his disagreement with the deal, explaining that he voted against it. He acknowledged the challenges faced by fellow members but underscored the importance of taking responsibility for securing the southern border.

“I voted no on the deal. I don’t agree with it. Look, I understand some of the pressures that members are facing, but we have a responsibility to do everything we can to secure our southern border, and continuing the spending of [former House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and the policies of Nancy Pelosi does not get us there,” Donalds added.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate approved a stopgap bill to fund the federal government through early March, preventing a partial government shutdown. The bill, known as a “continuing resolution” or “CR,” passed in a 77-18 vote, with all “no” votes coming from Republicans. The legislation now awaits final passage in the House of Representatives, Newsmax reported.

This third stopgap funding bill extends last fiscal year’s spending levels until March 1 and March 8, setting deadlines for completing actions on spending for various government agencies. The approval comes before a weekend deadline, ensuring the federal government remains funded and operational.
