Rep. Donalds Tells Newsmax: Imprisoning Trump Would be a Catastrophe
Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., expressed his concerns on Monday about the possibility of jailing former President Donald Trump for falsifying business records, calling it an “abject disaster,” in an interview with Newsmax.
During an appearance on “Wake Up America,” Donalds said that the American people recognize the political motivations behind the situation.
“I am concerned, and I would also tell you that would be an abject disaster,” he said, referring to a potential prison term for Trump. “It would be very, very stupid. First of all, Donald Trump is a former president. He knows the nation’s secrets. How do you put somebody like that in Rikers Island? What’s going to happen with Secret Service? Are they just going to leave him?”
Donalds also criticized the idea of removing Secret Service protection from Trump, emphasizing the need to protect him given his former role and access to sensitive information.
Describing the situation as “dumb,” Donalds emphasized the apparent political nature of the case and criticized the handling of more serious crimes compared to the attention given to Trump.
Regarding President Joe Biden, Donalds referred to him as “the master of disaster,” highlighting perceived failures and asserting that the country cannot afford his leadership any longer.
Looking ahead to the November election, Donalds expressed confidence that voters will make informed decisions about the future of the country, emphasizing the need to prioritize the needs and interests of the American people.
