Rep. Greene Escalates Criticism of House Speaker

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., heightened her criticism of House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday, alleging that he is compromising public safety by giving in to Democrats on border security, as reported by The Hill.

“If Speaker Johnson allocates another $60 billion to defending Ukraine’s border after fully supporting Biden’s dangerous open border policy, the American people will be the ones to suffer,” Greene stated in a tweet.

In a subsequent tweet later that Monday, Greene added: “Speaker Johnson relinquished all our power in the House to combat heinous crimes like child rape by undocumented individuals by fully supporting Biden’s open border without a fight.”

Greene expressed dissatisfaction with Johnson’s recent endorsement of funding the government through September in a large spending deal with President Joe Biden, a deal that omitted the stringent border security measures demanded by many conservatives, according to The Hill.

Greene’s criticisms of the speaker followed Johnson’s remarks on the issue the day before.

“These are not the ideal pieces of legislation that you, Marjorie, and I would draft if we had the opportunity to do so differently,” Johnson told Fox News on Sunday. “But with the smallest margin in U.S. history, we sometimes end up with legislation that we may not fully support.”

Although Greene introduced a resolution to oust Johnson as speaker, she has not taken steps to bring it to a vote. However, her comments on Monday suggest that she may do so if she disagrees with his handling of the upcoming Ukraine debate.
