Rep. Greene Temporarily Withdraws Support for Removal Vote Against Speaker

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has decided to postpone her motion to vacate against Mike Johnson, R-La., following a meeting with the House speaker on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite this decision, Greene emphasized that she will keep the threat of ousting Johnson on the table indefinitely, stating that “right now the ball is in Mike Johnson’s court.”

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Greene expressed her frustration with mere words and emphasized the importance of actions in resolving the issue.

Earlier, Johnson expressed gratitude for the support of former President Donald Trump in the ongoing situation. However, he clarified that Trump was not present during the recent meeting with Greene and announced his intention to pursue the speakership after the upcoming election.

Greene disclosed that she had discussed her plans with Trump but refrained from providing details of their conversation. Trump reportedly urged her to prioritize party unity and refrain from proceeding with the motion to vacate. He also publicly praised Johnson over the weekend.

With minimal support from GOP representatives Thomas Massie and Paul Gosar, Greene’s efforts to oust Johnson have been met with resistance from the Democratic caucus, who declared that her endeavor will not succeed.

Johnson made it clear that his discussions with Greene were not negotiations and revealed that she presented a list of demands before their meeting on Tuesday.

The demands included halting Ukraine aid, defunding the special counsel’s investigation into Trump, requiring majority party support for legislation, and passing a continuing resolution with a spending cut before the election.

Despite the demands, Johnson did not rule out the possibility of defunding the special counsel’s investigation.

Greene emphasized the simplicity of her demands and emphasized the importance of actions in resolving the issue. She left it up to Johnson to demonstrate his ability to lead as the Republican speaker.
