Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is expressing concerns about the possibility of a 2028 presidential election in the U.S., following her repeated claims that President Donald Trump is a dictator intent on undermining democratic processes.

Crockett, a progressive voice from Texas, made her comments during Sunday morning’s “State of the Union” on CNN, where anchor Jake Tapper inquired if her fellow “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) might consider challenging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in the 2028 primaries.
“You’re close with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez… Some of your colleagues, including moderates, are prepared to support her against Chuck Schumer in the primary. Would you back that?” Tapper asked.
“That is four years away. If this discussion were happening in two years, I would have a more definitive answer,” the Texas Congresswoman responded.
In the meantime, Schumer is facing significant backlash from within his party, following his vote for a Republican initiative aimed at preventing a federal government shutdown, despite initially opposing it.
Ocasio-Cortez criticized Schumer on CNN, calling his vote a “critical error,” and disparaged the GOP measure that he supported, labeling it a “slush fund for Donald Trump and Elon Musk.”
Crockett is no stranger to controversy, having labeled Trump as a “dictator” and an “enemy of the United States” during a recent appearance on MSNBC.
She also exhibited denial surrounding the 2024 election results at a subcommittee meeting last month, referring to Trump as “the person that allegedly got elected.”
Moreover, in an interview with Vanity Fair last December, Crockett made headlines for comments regarding Hispanic voters who supported Trump, claiming they possessed a “slave mentality.”
