Rep. Jordan requests Florida case prosecutor documents

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has reached out to a prosecutor on special counsel Jack Smith’s team, inviting him for an interview with the panel. The panel is interested in discussing his alleged “unethical conduct” in the prosecution of Donald Trump in the classified documents case in Florida.

Specifically, Jordan and committee Republicans are focusing on prosecutor Jay Bratt’s three meetings at the White House prior to Trump’s indictment in South Florida.

In a letter addressing the prosecutor, Jordan expressed concerns about the actions taken by Bratt that appeared to violate the Department’s duty to impartial justice. These concerns stem from the three White House meetings Bratt attended in September 2021, November 2021, and March 2023.

Jordan has raised suspicions about a potential coordinated effort between the Department and the White House to investigate and prosecute President Biden’s political opponents. This issue was addressed in his previous letters to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and White House chief of staff Jeff Zients in August last year.

In his letter to Bratt, Jordan pointed out that the meetings could create a perception of improper coordination. Additionally, concerns were raised about a claim made by an attorney for one of Trump’s co-defendants in the classified documents case, regarding a potential judge appointment for Bratt.

The start of the classified documents case has been postponed indefinitely by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon. Hearings are scheduled for later this month to address legal issues presented by Trump’s defense team.
