Rep. Khanna Accuses Netanyahu of Overstepping Bounds

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., told Newsmax on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making the “same mistake of overreach” that the United States made in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001.

Khanna, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, joined “The Record With Greta Van Susteren” to say Netanyahu has “overcommitted” to a situation that doesn’t have a “military solution” in the aftermath of his country’s 9/11.

“It’s that America also learned its lesson,” Khanna told Van Susteren. “After 9/11 I was for the initial attacks in Afghanistan after Al Qaeda. But we realized that staying there 20 years was a mistake. Donald Trump said that. We realized that going into Iraq was a mistake. And I think Israel, Netanyahu is making the same mistake of overreach that George W. Bush made, which was to go in overcommitted to something that doesn’t have a military solution.”

Khanna made clear his position: He is pro-Israel; Hamas are terrorists; and he “unequivocally condemned” the Oct. 7 attacks. But he also stressed that you can be a friend to Israel and criticize what they’re doing in Gaza.

“If I thought that they would simply be able to eliminate Hamas militarily and they would have some new rule in Palestine of civilians, and that you could achieve that militarily, that’s a different question,” Khanna said. “I just don’t think that’s achievable.

“Ultimately, we need two states. They needed to take action to get the terrorists accountable, but until we have some two-state diplomatic solution, which does not include Hamas, get the Gulf allies to pressure for economic development conditional on Hamas not being part of government; I think we need that approach as well.

“It can’t be military in itself.”
