Rep. Kiggans Tells Newsmax: Washing Vietnam Memorial is a ‘Very Special’ Experience

Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., shared with Newsmax on Monday her experience working alongside fellow legislators to “clean and preserve” the Vietnam War Memorial, calling it a “very special” moment.

Kiggans, along with veterans serving in Congress like Reps. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., and Pat Ryan, D-N.Y., participated in washing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial over the weekend in preparation for Memorial Day on Monday.

“This was the second year in a row that I was able to go with my bipartisan colleagues,” Kiggans shared with “American Agenda.” “Both sides of the aisle participated, and we spent time with the Park Service using special brushes and soap to clean the wall, remove and clean the mementos gathered there, and put them back in place.

“It holds a very special significance for me.”

Kiggans reminisced about her father, a Vietnam veteran, who used to take her to the memorial and show her the names of his fellow servicemen, including one who was the best man at her parents’ wedding.

“We understand that freedom comes at a cost … and America remains the land of the free because of the brave, a truth I witnessed firsthand during my service,” she expressed. “The individuals I served alongside were some of the finest Americans I’ve ever known. It’s truly an honor to now serve in Congress and advocate for our active-duty servicemen and women.”
