Rep. Mast tells Newsmax that Israel must open a northern front against Hezbollah
Israel’s military is currently engaged in operations against two Iranian-backed terror groups: Hamas in the Gaza Strip to the south and Hezbollah in Lebanon to the north.
The primary focus of the conflict is in the south, with Israel aiming to eliminate Hamas and rescue hostages in Gaza. However, Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., expressed to Newsmax on Tuesday that he believes the Israel Defense Forces will eventually confront Hezbollah in the north due to the frequent rocket attacks on Israeli territory.
Mast stated, “Hezbollah poses a significant threat with a strong military supply chain compared to Gaza. They have the capacity to launch more rockets, especially after recent events post Oct. 7.”
Israel’s Air Force has conducted retaliatory strikes on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of senior Hezbollah commanders. Mast anticipates a broader military campaign against Hezbollah.
Mast, a U.S. Army veteran, commented, “I believe that a northern front will emerge at some point. Israel will determine when it strategically and tactically benefits them.”
Mast praised Israel’s recent hostage rescue in Gaza, despite the civilian casualties. He emphasized the complex nature of the situation, stating that many civilians in Gaza are tied to terrorist activities.
