Rep. McCaul Believes US Should Not Prevent Israel From Completing its War
Rep. Michael McCaul compared denying Israel access to U.S. weapons for a military operation in Rafah to preventing U.S. troops from finishing World War II. He criticized President Joe Biden’s threat to withhold high-payload bombs due to concerns about potential civilian casualties in Rafah.
“For us to intervene and block Israel from completing their military objective in Rafah is like imposing an arms embargo,” McCaul stated during an interview with ABC News’ “This Week.”
He emphasized that the weapons in question are precision-guided and would help minimize civilian casualties in Rafah, where over a million civilians are seeking refuge during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
McCaul raised concerns about Biden’s decision to withhold these weapons, stating that it goes against congressional intent and could send a negative message to U.S. allies and partners regarding trust in the United States.
While acknowledging the heartbreaking situation in Gaza, McCaul stressed that Hamas initiated the conflict and until the group is removed, a peaceful resolution will be challenging to achieve.
Regarding Israel’s determination to enter Rafah, McCaul expressed worry about the implications of Biden’s actions on the U.S.’s reputation globally.
At the end, the congressman underscored the necessity of eradicating Hamas for a lasting peace in the region.
