Rep. Phillips Expresses Gratitude for Opportunity to Visit Normandy, Tells Newsmax it is a ‘Blessing’
Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., joined Newsmax from Normandy, France, on Thursday, where he helped commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. He described it as an “extraordinary blessing” and one of the most impactful days of his life.
During an interview on “The Record With Greta Van Susteren”, Phillips expressed his profound emotions at being present among fellow Americans, united in a joint effort to emphasize the value of freedom.
Phillips stated, “It’s one of the most remarkable days of my life, Greta, to witness Democrats and Republicans from our Congress, along with the French and British allies, standing together to remind the world that democracy is precious and freedom comes at a cost. It’s an incredibly special day, especially to be surrounded by the last surviving veterans of that battle.”
Among them was Les Schrenk, a 100-year-old veteran from Minnesota, who shared his story of being shot down over France, held as a POW by the Germans, and surviving harsh conditions to bear witness to the unity of allies.
Reflecting on the experience, Phillips emphasized the bipartisan unity and American pride felt on that day, transcending political affiliations and emphasizing the common values shared by all.
