Rep. Salazar tells Newsmax: The entire nation, not just Trump, is being scrutinized
Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, joining former President Donald Trump in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday, expressed concerns about the proceedings, telling Newsmax that she and other lawmakers traveled to New York City to denounce what’s happening in the courthouse. She emphasized that the trial is not just about Trump, but the entire country is also on trial. The Florida Republican warned that the same forces manipulating the court system against him could come after others in the future.
Michael Cohen, a former Trump attorney, was the last prosecution witness on Monday, with uncertainty about whether Trump’s lawyers will call witnesses or himself to the stand.
The trial will go on hiatus after Wednesday and will resume after the Memorial Day weekend. The jury could begin deliberating on the case as early as next week, which includes 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with hush money payments made before the 2016 election.
Salazar described the trial as a “political trial,” urging that the situation is familiar and does not end well. She cited concerns about biased media coverage, emphasizing that it could have long-term consequences.
Despite not being favored and paying for her own trip, Salazar expressed her commitment to representing her constituents and denouncing the trial. She noted that many of her constituents have fled similar political trials in other countries.
Salazar also stressed the importance of letting the people speak and allowing Republicans to vote in masses. She highlighted the need for unity and participation in the democratic process.
