Rep. Steube warns Newsmax of potential threat to Truth Social from TikTok Bill

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., told Newsmax Wednesday that the language in the new bill seeking to ban TikTok in the United States could grant “new power to President [Joe] Biden, allowing him to potentially shut down and divest Truth Social from communicating with their base months before an election.”

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives approved a bill that could result in a ban of the popular video-sharing app TikTok in the United States. The bill would prohibit the use of TikTok unless the China-based owner sells its stake in the company.

Steube pointed out language in the bill indicating that a president can take action against individuals under the influence or control of a foreign entity.

“This is a tactic that has been used against conservatives before, like with Trump and the Russia collusion narrative. Who is to say that President Joe Biden won’t claim that Truth Social is influenced by individuals from Russia or the Chinese Communist Party?” Steube questioned during an appearance on “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”
