Rep. Strong tells Newsmax: Speaker Johnson is not the issue
Among a small group of Republicans pushing for the removal of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., Rep. Dale Strong, R-Ala., stated in an interview with Newsmax on Thursday that “Mike Johnson is not the issue.”
The House is set to vote on Saturday on the long-debated foreign aid bill that was passed by the Senate in February. House Republicans have delayed the process due to a lack of funding for U.S. border security.
Johnson has put forward new legislation that separates the funding for Ukraine, Israel, and other allies into individual bills. This has led Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., to call for Johnson’s removal.
Strong expressed his support for Johnson on “Wake Up America”, saying he will “stand by Mike Johnson for now.”
“What we need to focus on is doing the work for the people,” Strong emphasized. “Having differing opinions doesn’t warrant a change in the speaker of the House.”
Warning his fellow Republicans, Strong, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, noted that their party holds a slim majority in the House.
“We hold the gavel, not a majority, because we are divided among ourselves,” he stated. “Let’s prioritize the work for the American people.”
