Rep. Warren Davidson Exposes ‘Fatal Flaw’ in Afghan Withdrawal, Tells Newsmax

According to Rep. Warren Davidson, U.S. Central Command retired Gen. Kenneth “Frank” McKenzie’s testimony to the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding the decision to remove military personnel from Afghanistan before civilians being a “fatal flaw” that contributed to the chaos in August 2021 was accurate.

However, questions remain about why Gen. McKenzie and former Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley did not voice their concerns about the plan, as stated by the Ohio Republican during an interview on Newsmax‘s “The Count” on Saturday.

“He predicted it,” Davidson remarked. “It was a fatal flaw, and it’s true. The State Department has operational control over non-combatant evacuations.”

Davidson expressed his disappointment in not being able to ask McKenzie and Milley why they were willing to express disagreements with Donald Trump but did not do the same when it came to Biden’s presidency and the evacuation plan in Afghanistan.

He also questioned Gen. Milley about the long-standing strategy in Afghanistan, describing it as an “as much as it takes, as long as it takes” policy. Milley suggested that there should be a defined end state in wars, which Davidson noted as a similar approach seen in U.S. strategy, including with Ukraine.

Davidson emphasized the need for accountability from Congress and criticized the lack of oversight in previous years. He mentioned the difficulty in obtaining hearings due to Democratic control of the House, but highlighted recent efforts to hold the administration accountable.

Davidson also referenced the testimony of U.S. Marine Corps sniper Tyler Vargas Andrews, who detailed how personnel were not given authorization to prevent an attack at Abbey Gate in Kabul, leading to casualties.

In conclusion, Davidson highlighted the importance of accountability and blamed the Department of Defense for failing to provide clear rules of engagement, which he believes could have prevented the bombing at Abbey Gate.
