Rep. Wenstrup speaks to Newsmax about tough questions GOP has for Fauci
Retired Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who served as the public health voice during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be questioned by the House subcommittee investigating the response, Rep. Brad Wenstrup, its chair, informed Newsmax on Sunday.
The intense questioning is scheduled for Monday following the release of the transcript from Fauci’s closed-door interviews with the subcommittee earlier this year. The Ohio Republican revealed to Newsmax’s “Sunday Report” that the hearings uncovered several details warranting further investigation.
Wenstrup stated, “During that process, Dr. Fauci mentioned that the 6 feet of distancing and mask mandates for children lacked scientific backing. He also raised concerns about the mandates imposed on the American people.” He emphasized on the importance of the vaccine and individual decision-making rather than mandates.
Fauci expressed regret about the mandates and acknowledged the unexpected response from the American people, admitting that mandates without proper justification did not resonate well with the public. He also pointed out inconsistencies in the definitions of gain-of-function research.
The committee will inquire about the lack of accountability and oversight in Fauci’s role despite being the highest-paid individual in the federal government. Additionally, testimonies from other experts revealed conflicting information regarding grant oversight and research activities in China.
Regarding Fauci’s responses during prior interviews, Wenstrup highlighted Fauci’s frequent claims of not remembering important details. He also raised concerns about the use of personal email accounts and potential referrals to the Department of Justice for further investigation.
