Report: Donald Trump’s Potential Vice President Candidates Undergo Vetting Process

Leading up to the Republican National Convention, it has been reported that former President Donald Trump’s campaign is in the process of vetting potential running mates.

Trump has narrowed down his list of vice presidential candidates to four individuals: North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Senators Marco Rubio of Florida, Tim Scott of South Carolina, and JD Vance of Ohio, as per a report by NBC News. Sources suggest that it could be a three-way competition among Burgum, Rubio, and Vance.

Details regarding who has been asked to provide vetting information are still unknown. However, one source mentioned that Burgum, who has been spending more time with Trump lately, has received a request. Advisors to Burgum and other potential running mates have either declined to comment or have not responded to inquiries.

While Trump’s shortlist remains fluid and may at times include more than six names, other individuals under consideration for the role of vice president include South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida, and Dr. Ben Carson, who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump administration.

Additionally, Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida was reported by The Washington Examiner as another potential candidate on May 30.

According to Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for Trump’s campaign, Trump is likely to announce his running mate at the convention, which is scheduled to commence on July 15 in Milwaukee. This follows a recent trial where Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records, with sentencing set for four days before the convention.

The trial was seen as an unofficial audition for potential running mates, with Burgum, Vance, and Donalds showing support for Trump during the proceedings. Burgum, in particular, was present with Trump on the day of the verdict.

“There’s a lot of buzz around that,” Burgum mentioned to Newsmax about his potential candidacy as a running mate. “I just say President Trump is so strong right now, he could get elected without a vice president.”
