Report: Federal Authorities Accidentally Released Suspected Somali Terrorist
Lawmakers are seeking explanations as to why a Somali man, who had a history in explosives and weapons trafficking and was on the federal terrorism watch list, was able to remain in the United States due to an error by federal agencies.
The 27-year-old man, whose identity was not disclosed, was released after being apprehended while illegally entering California in March 2023, as reported by The National Pulse.
The man, despite his criminal record, was not re-arrested until January when he was located in Minnesota, prompting GOP lawmakers to question the reasons behind this delay. They raised concerns in a letter about the possible involvement of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the man’s journey to Minnesota.
“Due to Minnesota’s considerable distance from the border, it is not an easy feat for migrants to reach the state,” the letter states. “Did the al-Shabbab terrorist travel to Minnesota with the assistance, either direct or indirect, of an NGO? If so, which NGO was responsible for transporting the individual to Minnesota?”
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., stated that the Biden administration’s open-border policy “allowed a known terrorist to move freely throughout our state, and now they must be held accountable for their unacceptable negligence.”
This revelation comes after the apprehension of a Hezbollah terrorist in March at the southern border, who expressed intentions to “make a bomb” and target New York City.
