Report: Legal Analysts Critical of Trump Hold Weekly Private Meetings

A group of legal analysts critical of Donald Trump from various cable television outlets gather every Friday on a Zoom call to discuss the former president’s legal challenges, as reported by Politico.

The meetings are led by Norman Eisen, a former senior official in the Obama administration and legal commentator on CNN, who played a key role in the House Democrats’ legal team during Trump’s initial impeachment, according to Politico.

Regular participants include prominent figures like conservative commentator Bill Kristol, liberal constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe, John Dean, a former White House counsel under Richard Nixon, and George Conway, a conservative attorney and co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, as mentioned by the news outlet.

Other attendees on the calls include Andrew Weissmann, a former federal prosecutor who was part of Robert Mueller’s Trump-Russia investigation and now serves as a legal analyst for MSNBC, and CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, famously known for an incident exposing himself during a meeting with colleagues from The New Yorker.

Occasional participants in the meetings are CNN commentator Elliot Williams, a former federal prosecutor, Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin, and other notable figures in the fields of politics, law, and media.

The New York Post referred to the attendees of the meetings as a “cable cabal of anti-Trump legal pundits.”

A legal commentator not involved in the gatherings expressed concerns to Politico about potential perceptions of collaboration or conspiracy across mainstream media outlets, particularly on the right.

One participant described the calls as reminiscent of a seminar in law school, characterized by deliberation, debate, and discussions with a clear anti-Trump bias.

These meetings have been taking place since 2022, with topics ranging from briefings by Jan. 6 House Committee staffers to discussions on the investigation of the Capitol building attack, as detailed by Politico.
