Report: Sen. Cruz Alleges FTC-EU Collusion
Texas Senator Ted Cruz has accused the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of colluding with the European Union (EU) to create regulations that undermine Congress and harm American businesses. Cruz specifically targets two new laws, the Digital Markets Act and the Digital Services Act, which could potentially cost US companies billions of dollars and shift European companies from using American tech providers to Chinese ones. Cruz argues that the FTC’s collaboration with the EU is damaging to US sovereignty and Congress’s constitutional authority, as well as detrimental to US firms and the savings of American stockholders. The EU laws aim to foster digital sovereignty, ensure fair and accountable digital services, and address the lack of competition in digital markets. They impose fines on “gatekeeper” platforms and establish regulations for data privacy, content moderation, and disinformation.
