Representative Biggs questions whether the Hunter Biden jury would prioritize facts over emotions, in an interview with Newsmax.
Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., told Newsmax on Tuesday that the key issue in jurors’ decision in first son Hunter Biden’s federal gun case in Delaware is whether they will prioritize facts over emotions and make a verdict based on evidence.
“The undisputed fact is that he committed the crime,” Biggs said during an interview on “National Report.” “The question is whether the jury will convict, and they should if the prosecution has separated sympathy from the actual crime. Prosecution had to show that regardless of any sympathy or understanding for Hunter Biden’s struggles, they must convict if they are convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed the crime.”
“There is no doubt about his involvement in the crime,” he added. “The real question is whether the jury will consider his rehabilitation and personal struggles as reasons to acquit rather than following the rule of law.”
The jury reached a verdict later that morning and found Biden guilty on all three federal gun charges.
Hunter Biden was charged with lying about his drug addiction in order to illegally purchase a gun in 2018.
Biden, 54, is the first child of a sitting president to face criminal charges. He pleaded not guilty to the felony charges related to lying about his addiction on a government form to obtain a Colt Cobra revolver and unlawfully possessing the firearm for 11 days.
Biggs noted that the prosecution presented overwhelming evidence to prove Hunter Biden’s lies on the form.
“He was using drugs and was an addict,” Biggs said. “While the defense may argue for mercy based on rehabilitation, the prosecution’s case against him is strong.”
