Representative Burlison Urges Newsmax to Include Border Language in the Ukraine Bill
Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., told Newsmax on Friday that the only way to get President Joe Biden and the Democrats to address the U.S. southern border issue is by forcing them to take action.
Earlier on Friday, the House voted 316-94 to move forward with the foreign aid bill that had been delayed for some time. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., proposed breaking the funding for Ukraine, Israel, and other allies into separate bills. A final vote on the package may occur as early as Saturday.
Burlison, a member of the Oversight and Accountability Committee, expressed frustration with the missed opportunity for Republicans going into Saturday. Recognizing that the Democratic Senate is unlikely to act on border issues, Burlison suggested pushing legislation to compel action.
“The only way to do that is to include border language in a must-pass bill or in a bill like the Ukraine supplemental that they are trying to pass,” he said during an interview on “American Agenda.”
In recent months, House Republicans have used their slim majority to stall the process due to insufficient funding for U.S. border security. This has led to calls for Speaker Johnson’s removal from several members of congress, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz, and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.
