Representative Comer tells Newsmax: DOJ Is Seen as Political by Everyone
According to Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the majority of Americans believe that Attorney General Merrick Garland is prioritizing his own interests by protecting President Joe Biden, as reported by Newsmax on Tuesday.
Chair of the House Oversight Committee, Congressman Comer, expressed these views during an appearance on “American Agenda.” He emphasized the perception among Americans that the cases against former President Trump are politically motivated attempts to destroy the opposition, with Garland being heavily scrutinized for his role.
Comer criticized Garland’s alleged political motives, stating that the American people have lost confidence in the fairness of the Department of Justice under his leadership. The congressman highlighted Garland as a political figure who is using the justice system to target political opponents.
These comments from the chairman came after an article by The Wall Street Journal portrayed Garland as an apolitical servant who enjoys Taylor Swift’s music and is overseeing Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into documents related to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
The Wall Street Journal article, which focused on Garland and Smith, has been interpreted by some as a sympathetic piece amid Comer’s ongoing investigation into alleged wrongdoing by Biden and his associates.
Comer mentioned his plans to review audio recordings of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Hur to verify the accuracy of the transcripts provided to Congress.
