Representative D’Esposito Tells Newsmax: Negotiating with Columbia Protesters is ‘Absurd’
Rep. Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y., expressed his disbelief to Newsmax that the administration at Columbia University is negotiating with pro-Palestinian protesters who have disrupted normal operations at the school.
Columbia released a statement on Wednesday morning stating that progress is being made with representatives of the student encampment on the West lawn and that conversations will continue for the next 48 hours.
D’Esposito, during an appearance on “Wake Up America,” expressed concern for Jewish students at Columbia University who feel threatened by individuals chanting anti-Israel and anti-America sentiments. He criticized the university’s leadership for engaging in negotiations with such individuals, emphasizing the need for a focus on peace and resolution.
He also called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for describing the Columbia protests as “peaceful” on social media, pointing out the violence and chaos that have occurred.
