Representative Good Tells Newsmax: ‘Wasn’t Comfortable With’ Vote on Antisemitism

Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., expressed his reservations about voting for the Antisemitism Awareness Act on Newsmax on Friday, stating that he had concerns about how Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., handled the vote.

During an interview on “Wake Up America,” Good explained that he felt pressured to support the bill due to the rise in violent antisemitism across the country, despite his concerns about the legislation itself.

Although the House passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act with a 320-91 vote, critics have raised concerns about potential erosion of free speech protections. Good acknowledged these concerns, noting that he had pushed for the bill to be revised to address such issues.

In response to questions about the bill’s implications for free speech, Good emphasized the need for a balanced approach to addressing antisemitism without compromising First Amendment rights.

Describing Speaker Johnson’s handling of the bill as a failure, Good expressed regret over voting for the legislation and criticized the decision to bring it to the floor without addressing the concerns raised by lawmakers.
