Representative Jordan Inquires About Trump’s Investigation Into Classified Documents

House Republicans are currently investigating potential tampering with the classified documents recovered from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, as reported by the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

In a letter to the Department of Justice, House Judiciary Committee head Jim Jordan expressed concerns about the impartiality of the DOJ in handling the investigation.

The GOP is raising questions about potential witness tampering due to allegations that the boxes of files were manipulated. These allegations were brought to light by Trump aide Walt Nauta’s legal team while reviewing evidence shared by Special Counsel Jack Smith’s prosecution.

Nauta, who has pleaded not guilty, is accused by Smith of conspiring with Trump to obstruct the probe. Jordan’s letter also raises concerns about ethical lapses within Smith’s prosecution team, including promises of favorable treatment in future roles as judges for Nauta’s lawyers.

The letter requested the DOJ to provide documents and communications related to ethics probes into Smith and information about the manipulation of the document boxes by a May 20 deadline.

Trump is facing 40 felony charges, with 32 under the Espionage Act for handling classified files and eight related to lying to prosecutors and obstructing justice.
