Representative Kat Cammack: Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Effort to Remove Speaker Fails
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attempt to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is no longer a possibility, as the Republican conference does not have the necessary support to oust him, according to Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla.
“There just isn’t a will amongst the conference to do something that drastic,” Cammack said, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday. “I mean, clearly, there are members that are dissatisfied, but that’s nothing new to Capitol Hill.”
House Democrat leaders have stated that if Greene, R-Ga., brings a motion to the floor, they will vote to table it.
Other Republicans have also dismissed Greene’s efforts to remove Johnson. When asked about her motion, Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., said “Motion to what?”
Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, told reporters that they are the only ones discussing the issue and urged Republicans to focus on maintaining their House majority in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, Greene continued to criticize Johnson, arguing that he has “betrayed” Republicans through recent legislation and claiming that he will jeopardize the party’s majority in the House.
Johnson has made it clear that he will not resign, stating that “No one can afford that” and pointing to the consequences of a similar situation that occurred last fall.
