Representative Mast tells Newsmax that Israel will have to open a northern front against Hezbollah
Israel’s military is currently engaged in operations against two Iranian-backed terror groups: Hamas in the Gaza Strip to the south and Hezbollah in Lebanon to the north.
The primary focus of the conflict is in the south, where Israel aims to destroy Hamas and rescue remaining hostages in Gaza. However, Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., expressed to Newsmax on Tuesday his belief that the Israel Defense Forces will eventually initiate a northern front to combat Hezbollah, which has been launching rockets into Israeli territory almost daily.
Mast explained, “Hezbollah poses a greater threat than Gaza due to their superior military supply chain. They have the capability to deploy more rockets than Gaza, especially after recent events post Oct. 7.”
Israel’s Air Force has been responding to Hezbollah with strikes in southern Lebanon that have resulted in the deaths of senior Hezbollah commanders. Mast suggested that a broader military operation may be undertaken in the future.
Mast, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, stated, “I believe there will be a northern front at some point. It’s a matter of strategic and tactical timing for Israel.”
He applauded Israel’s recent daring rescue mission to free hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, despite the reported casualties among Palestinian civilians. Mast emphasized the complexity of the situation, noting that many civilians in Gaza are indirectly involved in supporting terrorist activities.
