Representative Roy tells Newsmax: Despite Polls, There is High Enthusiasm for DeSantis in Iowa

With the Iowa Republican presidential caucuses less than a month away, Rep. Chip Roy told Newsmax Tuesday that there is much enthusiasm in the state for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, despite polls showing that former President Donald Trump holds a substantial lead over all the candidates.

Roy, a Texas Republican who has endorsed DeSantis, told Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” that “the people of Iowa understand something pretty simple: Polls don’t decide elections, people do.”

He emphasized that Gov. DeSantis has a very strong record, that he has actually followed through on everything he said he would do. In short, DeSantis delivers, and “I think the people are understanding that in Iowa, when they sit in a room and meet with him and talk to him.” Roy stressed that there is “a lot of enthusiasm on the ground out in Iowa” for him.

When asked why people don’t like DeSantis, Roy said, “You’re making some assumptions there based on polls. And the polls today are not reflecting public opinion, the polls today are being designed purposely to try to persuade, because the media would love nothing more than to have another show this summer.”

The Texas congressman added, “I understand why the American people are longing for the days four years ago where we had a strong economy and we had a better response at the border. But let’s look at the record. The American people are looking at the records and comparing them.”

Roy pointed out that “it wasn’t Gov. DeSantis who anointed [chief medical adviser to the president Anthony] Fauci as the king of all tyranny over the American people. It wasn’t Gov. DeSantis who gave Fauci a medal on his last day of office. It wasn’t Gov. DeSantis who racked up $8 trillion in debt. It wasn’t Gov. DeSantis who was empowering all manners of bureaucrats to roll over the American people and shut down the greatest economy in the world. Records matter.”

Roy added that Gov. DeSantis won Florida by a million and a half votes, but neither President Trump nor Nikki Haley have won an election in five years … so i think people are responding when they get to the ballot box.
