Reps. Lee and Kiley Express Doubt in Mayorkas’ Reliability Regarding Border Crossing Information in Conversation with Newsmax
Rep. Laura Lee, a Republican from Florida, is questioning the accuracy of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ statistics on illegal border crossings. Lee claims that the department has begun using a new app that releases individuals into the country without tracking their whereabouts or holding them accountable for missing court dates. Therefore, she doubts the reliability of the reported numbers. The Biden administration recently celebrated a decline in border crossings for the month of June, attributing it to their policies. However, Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley from California disagrees and expects Mayorkas to deny the reality of the situation during his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. Kiley argues that the surge in illegal border crossings is directly linked to the Biden administration’s policy changes, such as ending border wall construction and the “remain in Mexico” program. He highlights the negative consequences of this trend, including threats to national security, increased fentanyl deaths, and human trafficking. According to Kiley, the American public is dissatisfied with the current state of affairs regarding immigration.
