Republicans are More Trusted on Crime, According to Rasmussen Poll

Voters are increasingly putting their trust in Republicans over Democrats when it comes to handling crime.

According to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll, 53% of voters have more confidence in Republicans to address crime and law enforcement issues, compared to only 35% who trust Democrats more.

This marks a six-point increase from a previous Rasmussen poll in February, where Republicans led Democrats 48% to 36%.

The poll also revealed that a majority of Americans believe that crime is on the rise. While 81% of Republicans and 42% of Democrats think violent crime is worsening, 62% of unaffiliated voters share the same concern.

Overall, nearly five times as many voters believe that violent crime in America is getting worse (61%) rather than better (13%), with 24% stating that the crime situation remains the same, according to Rasmussen’s findings.

Among Republicans, 66% consider the issue to be very important in the upcoming presidential election, along with 41% of Democrats and 44% of unaffiliated voters.

Another Rasmussen survey found that a majority of voters view shoplifting as a serious problem.

Despite the public perception, crime in the U.S. has actually decreased significantly over the past year, as indicated by new FBI data cited by NBC News. According to the FBI data comparing crime rates in the third quarter of 2023 to the previous year, violent crime decreased by 8% and property crime by 6.3%, reaching its lowest level since 1961, as reported by NBC.
