In a closed-door meeting on Monday, Kennedy reportedly urged food industry leaders to eliminate artificial color additives from their offerings by the “end of his term” in office, a detail outlined in a memo concerning the discussion, which ABC News covered.
Melissa Hockstad, president and CEO of the Consumer Brands Association, who authored the memo, noted that removing artificial dyes is a primary goal of the Trump administration.
Hockstad addressed the memo to “Consumer Brands Member CEOs.”
“The Secretary made clear his intention to take action unless the industry is willing to be proactive with solutions,” Hockstad wrote.
She also mentioned that her association plans to collaborate with leaders from Health and Human Services (HHS) to eliminate obstacles so food companies can align with Kennedy’s objective.
“We will be working with your teams to gain as much alignment as possible about how we move forward and ensure the industry is positioned in the best possible way as we navigate next steps forward,” she stated. “But it is important to note that decision time is looming.”
