Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Challenges President Trump to Participate in Debate at Libertarian Convention
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is challenging former President Donald Trump to a debate at the Libertarian Party’s convention later this month, describing it as “perfect neutral territory” for them to engage in discussion.
Kennedy took to X to extend the invitation, stating, “We’re both scheduled to speak at the upcoming Libertarian convention on May 24 and 25. It provides a neutral platform for us to debate and address your supporters. Let’s meet and demonstrate to the American public our willingness to engage in debate.”
Considering joining the Libertarian Party after withdrawing from the Democratic race for the White House, both Kennedy and Trump have been asked to speak at their convention. Although President Joe Biden was also invited, he declined the invitation.
In his message to Trump, Kennedy emphasized that he’s not afraid to debate, especially now that his poll numbers are favorable. He highlighted his achievement of polling ahead of both major party candidates in head-to-head matchups.
Citing a poll conducted with Zogby, Kennedy pointed out that both he and Trump outperformed Biden, with Kennedy narrowly defeating Trump in a hypothetical matchup. He also mentioned his strong showings in polls, surpassing the 15% debate threshold and garnering significant support among young voters.
As of now, neither Trump’s campaign nor Kennedy’s team has responded to inquiries about the proposed debate or whether a similar invitation will be extended to Biden.
Kennedy, running alongside Nicole Shanahan, is officially on the ballot in three states and has gathered enough signatures to appear on the ballots in seven other states.
