Robert F. Kennedy Jr. secures spot on Texas ballot
Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shared on Monday that he submitted double the required number of signatures to secure ballot access in Texas for the upcoming election.
Kennedy and his running mate Nicole Shanahan delivered 245,572 signatures to the Texas Secretary of State’s office, making Texas the sixth state they have qualified for, on top of Utah, Michigan, California, Delaware, and Oklahoma. They also have enough signatures for eight more states: New Hampshire, Nevada, Hawaii, North Carolina, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio.
The campaign press secretary Stefanie Spear stated, “It’s official. Kennedy-Shanahan on Texas ballot! By collecting nearly a quarter of a million signatures in just two months, the campaign has shown it can overcome the most difficult ballot access requirement in the country.”
This achievement makes RFK Jr. the first independent candidate to qualify for the Texas ballot since Pat Buchanan in 2000.
A March Marist poll showed RFK Jr. with 15% support in Texas, while Trump led with 48% and Biden had 36%.
Nationally, Kennedy is polling at 10.8%, with Trump leading Biden by 2.7 points.
Ex-Republican congressman David Jolly commented on RFK Jr., saying, “He is a MAGA crazy Republican; he’s a vaccine denier. He denies science, he flip-flops on the issue of abortion and even his own VP candidate can’t keep up with where he is day to day on the most important issue going into November.”
In an interview, Kennedy expressed support for abortion rights, even late-term abortions, surprising Shanahan.
In a separate development, Kennedy filed a lawsuit against Facebook parent Meta, alleging election interference by censoring a political advertisement.
