Ron Estes Tells Newsmax: Hunter’s Defense Won’t Stand in Court
Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., told Newsmax on Tuesday that a potential legal argument that Hunter Biden might employ in defense against federal tax charges won’t “hold up” in court.
According to the indictment, the son of President Joe Biden is accused of spending money “on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature, In short, everything but his taxes.”
Estes was asked on “Newsline” about an article in USA Today on Tuesday that speculated Hunter Biden’s struggles with substance abuse addictions could form the “bedrock” of his legal defense against multiple federal tax charges.
Estes said he is doubtful whether this argument would “hold up” under scrutiny, “particularly when you look at [what] he was spending money [on], not just … drugs and prostitutes but also the lavish luxury house and a Porsche and fancy cars.”
Biden “was living the lifestyle instead of paying his taxes like we expect American citizens to do,” Estes added.
