Russia plans to escalate attacks on Western weapons as US ramps up military assistance

Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu issued a stern warning on Tuesday, stating plans to escalate attacks on Western weapons in Ukraine amidst increased tensions in the region, as reported by Politico.

Shoigu’s announcement comes following the recent approval by the United States of a substantial military aid package to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses against Russian aggression, highlighting a deepening divide between Moscow and Washington in the conflict.

“We will increase the intensity of attacks on logistics centers and storage bases for Western weapons,” Shoigu stated according to Russian state-owned media. RIA Novosti.

Over the weekend, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a $60 billion aid package, marking a significant shift in American support for Ukraine after months of delays. The impending aid delivery includes armored vehicles, artillery, and air defense systems urgently needed by Ukraine.

Furthermore, French and German defense firms have started establishing local facilities in Ukraine for arms maintenance, a critical step towards domestic weapons production, as per Politico.

Reuters reports that the Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have destroyed over 22,000 Ukrainian drones, 3,500 HIMARS rockets, and 600 missiles since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The escalating conflict has spurred swift action in the U.S. Senate, where lawmakers advanced various bills to enhance support for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The proposed legislation, which passed a procedural hurdle with an 80-19 vote, includes allocations of $61 billion for Ukraine, $26 billion for Israel, and humanitarian aid for civilians in conflict zones globally.

Additionally, the Senate bill allocates $8.12 billion to counter Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific region, along with provisions for potentially banning the social media app TikTok and imposing sanctions on Iran.

This rapid movement in Congress reflects mounting concerns over Russian aggression and demonstrates a bipartisan effort to offer substantial support to allies amidst escalating global tensions.

As the conflict in Ukraine unfolds, the Kremlin’s pledge to intensify attacks on Western arms heightens fears of further instability in the region, with geopolitical implications reverberating worldwide.
