Russia Taking Ukraine Ceasefire Agreement ‘Seriously’ but Disapproves Current Conditions – One America News Network

A senior Russian diplomat stated on Tuesday that Russia is taking the U.S. proposals for a cease-fire with Ukraine “seriously,” yet cannot agree to the terms as they currently stand, indicating a standstill in peace negotiations.

“We consider the proposals and solutions presented by the Americans very seriously, but we cannot accept them in their existing form,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, as quoted by state media.
“Currently, our primary demand to address the core issues relating to this conflict is not reflected in these proposals at all. This gap must be addressed,” Ryabkov added.
These remarks, given in an interview with the Russian magazine International Affairs, suggest that the U.S. and Russia have yet to resolve the discrepancies highlighted by Russian President Vladimir Putin last month, who stated that changes are needed to the U.S.-backed proposal.
This statement from Russia follows comments made by President Donald Trump, who has recently expressed his anger towards Putin and has hinted at imposing sanctions on nations purchasing Russian oil if he believes Moscow is stalling on a broader agreement.
Putin has previously stated that he desires for Ukraine to abandon its aspiration to join NATO and for Russia to retain control over the four Ukrainian regions it has declared as its territories.
Recently, both parties consented to halt their attacks in the Black Sea targeting energy infrastructure, with the U.S. agreeing to lift some sanctions against Russia.
However, last week, Putin violated this cessation by launching an attack on a Ukrainian energy facility in Kherson and directed his forces to “finish off” Ukrainian troops.
