Russia’s Nuclear Defense Chief Killed in Moscow Bombing, Ukraine Claims Involvement – One America News Network

Following Ukraine’s allegations of Russia deploying prohibited chemical weapons in combat, the director of the country’s Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological defense unit was killed in a bombing near a Moscow apartment complex on Tuesday.

According to reports from Russian media, “the device was detonated remotely and was packed with between 300g and 1kg of explosive material,” as noted by the BBC.
Additional reports suggest that the explosive device was cleverly concealed within an electric scooter.
Igor Kirillov, aged 54, was “convicted of war crimes on Monday by Ukraine’s leading internal security agency, the SBU,” accused of employing “forbidden chemical weapons” against Ukrainian combatants.
While there has been no formal acknowledgment of responsibility for the assassination, a Ukrainian law enforcement representative indicated to Politico that the SBU played a direct role in the incident, as reported by Forbes.
“Kirillov was a war criminal and a perfectly valid target due to his orders for using prohibited chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military… He would face the consequences for his war crimes,” stated the unnamed Ukrainian official to the outlet.
In response, Douglas Macgregor, a former U.S. Army Colonel Combat Veteran and ex-advisor to the Secretary of Defense, shared his thoughts on X regarding the incident, though his assertions remain unverified.
In October, Kirillov and several other Russian officials faced sanctions from the U.K. government for allegedly utilizing chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops. Kirillov was subjected to an asset freeze and a travel prohibition as part of the sanctions.
Officials from the U.K. commented on the assassination.
“Kirillov has been a notable spokesperson for Kremlin disinformation, spreading falsehoods to obscure Russia’s disgraceful and hazardous actions,” remarked the British Foreign Office.
Kirillov oversaw Russia’s Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops, which the State Department has also identified as under sanction.
Meanwhile, many social media users have added their perspectives and theories regarding the recent assassination.
However, The Intercept, which is perceived as a politically far-left outlet according to the AllSides political bias meter, reported in 2022 that ten Russian biologists publicly opposed their government and presented a differing narrative.
“Ten Russian biologists, including some who remain in Russia, have openly accused the government of fabricating evidence of biological weapons being developed in Ukrainian laboratories funded by the United States.
The researchers claimed that the documents disclosed by Russia’s defense ministry were not proof of alleged ‘bioweapons labs’ under Pentagon oversight in Ukraine but rather pertained to harmless pathogen collections employed for public health research,” said The Intercept.
