Second-Largest Foreign Landowner in the US is a Chinese Billionaire

The Daily Caller News Foundation discovered that Chen Tianqiao, a Chinese billionaire and member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), is the second-largest foreign landowner in the United States. Their review of Chinese-language news reports revealed this.

According to The Land Report, Chen owns 198,000 acres of land in Oregon through his global investment firm Shanda Group. This acquisition made him the second-largest foreign landowner in the U.S. after a Canadian family with over 1 million acres in Maine.

His Oregon property includes the Bull Springs Skyline Forest, which features springs, creeks, timberland, and wildlife.

Responding to the report, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore., expressed concern that individuals associated with the CCP are acquiring Oregon timberland.

Chen’s real estate portfolio also includes urban properties such as the Vanderbilt mansion in New York City, the Seeley Mudd Estate near Los Angeles, and a research facility at the California Institute of Technology.

Chinese ownership of U.S. land, especially in the agricultural sector, has raised concerns among Republican governors. Legislative and executive actions in states like Florida and Missouri highlight this growing awareness.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., believes that the CCP aims to weaken America through land acquisitions near military installations.

Aside from being a CCP member, Chen has been involved in Chinese government affairs and has held executive positions with the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.

Discussions within the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party indicate a need for increased scrutiny and potential restrictions on China-affiliated U.S. land purchases.
