Sen. Mullin tells Newsmax that raising the Israeli flag in Rafah is not a conquest
Senator Markwayne Mullin, Republican from Oklahoma and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, spoke with Newsmax on Tuesday about the raising of the Israeli flag in Rafah. He dismissed the idea of conquest and emphasized the symbolic importance of the flag, comparing it to the American flag raising at Iwo Jima.
Mullin addressed the potential controversy surrounding the Israeli flag in Rafah on “The Record With Greta Van Susteren,” rejecting the notion of conquest and highlighting the flag’s role as a rallying point.
“I don’t know if I agree with that or not,” Senator Mullin said. “Listen, when we were at Iwo Jima, we raised the American flag, and we weren’t taking over the country. But we were fighting against a foe that we had to fight to get to that step, every inch of the way. It’s a sense of pride; a flag in battle is a point of rallying. You rally behind it when you see it raised in the air, so I wouldn’t say it is a point of conquering.”
The Israeli military raised their flags at the Rafah border crossing early Tuesday as part of their operation to remove Hamas from the area.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the latest Hamas ceasefire proposal, calling it an attempt to sabotage their operations. Israel rejected the proposal, stating it was not authorized and labeling it a deception by the terrorist organization.
Footage of Israeli soldiers raising the Flag of Zion in Rafah has circulated widely, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the symbolism attached to the gesture.
