As the Central American nation engages more with the Trump administration’s illegal immigration policies, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) has confirmed her acceptance of an invitation to meet with President Nayib Bukele next month.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) was criticized by Luna for being the first member of Congress to meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal alien deported back to El Salvador and imprisoned in the high-security CECOT jail due to his classification as an MS-13 member by the Department of Justice.
“I am honored to accept a personal invitation to meet with President Bukele,” Luna stated in her post on the social platform X. “Unlike Senator Van Hollen, who socialized with a cartel member, my focus will be on enhancing the partnership between our countries, promoting shared commitments to safety, freedom, and national pride, as well as discussing our ongoing commitment to human rights.”
“I look forward to seeing you soon @nayibbukele,” the Florida Republican added.
The House representative shared the invitation, detailing that she would meet Bukele on May 8th at the president’s residence.
“Of course it’s a winning issue. Americans support enforcing the law. Common sense tells you this and polls back it up. If Democrats wish to discuss MS-13 gang members, we are ready to engage,” a senior White House official stated to the press.
