Senate Democrats Face Grim Outlook for 2024
Newsweek says that Democrats have a “bleak” outlook in U.S. Senate races next year.
This assessment comes after West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin’s announcement that he will not seek reelection in 2024.
Manchin’s decision virtually guarantees that the Democratic Party will lose his Senate seat next year in West Virginia, making the party’s path to retaining its slim Senate majority (51-49) even more challenging, according to The Associated Press.
Vox’s Andrew Prokop wrote that Democrats face a difficult map in 2024 Senate races and could fall into a deep Senate hole for years to come.
According to Newsweek, six Democrat senators are facing reelection in states that former President Donald Trump won at least once in the last two presidential elections, including swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
No Republican senators are facing reelection in states Trump lost in either of the last two presidential elections.
Other key states to watch in the 2024 Senate races include Arizona, Montana, and Ohio, where Democrat senators are seeking reelection in states won by Trump in recent elections.
The article also mentions the potential impact of the presidential election on some of the Senate races, particularly in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
