Senator Blackburn tells Newsmax: Every Family Deserves the Comfort of Knowing Their Children are Safe at School

Senator Marsha Blackburn, from Tennessee, discussed on Newsmax the recent Tennessee legislation allowing teachers to carry concealed handguns on school grounds. She emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of children in schools.

Although she is not a member of the Tennessee State Senate and has not reviewed the specific legislation, Senator Blackburn has been focusing on her Safe Schools Act. This act provides grants for schools to enhance their security measures, such as installing ballistic film on doors, security cameras, and one-touch locks to ensure the safety of students.

Tennessee’s Senate passed Senate Bill 1325, which permits teachers and faculty to carry handguns on school premises under certain conditions. This measure comes in response to a tragic school shooting incident and is expected to move to the Tennessee House for further consideration.

Senator Blackburn expressed satisfaction with Governor Bill Lee for implementing provisions from her Safe Schools Act, including funding for school safety. She also highlighted the importance of School Resource Officers and retired law enforcement personnel serving as security officers in schools.
