Senator Britt Makes Progress in Nerve Condition Recovery
Alabama Sen. Katie Britt has been hospitalized in Montgomery for a non-life-threatening condition, according to CNN. The 41-year-old Republican experienced sudden numbness in her face and was diagnosed with swelling of a facial nerve, likely caused by a post-viral infection. She has been receiving outpatient treatment and is expected to recover at home, although the process may take several weeks. Britt expressed gratitude for the medical professionals and asked for prayers.
Britt made history last November when she became the first woman elected to the Senate from Alabama. She is also the youngest woman to serve in the Senate. Despite her historic win, Britt has maintained a low profile during her first seven months in office. However, she was recently added to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s leadership team. Additionally, she is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which will be busy next month as it works on avoiding a government shutdown and funding the government for fiscal 2024.
